Fantastic Ed. I saw my little dog in here. ๐The constant distractions and the constant "guard dog" role. There WERE a lot of smells in this story. Way to reinvigorate them for us, like a scratch and sniff card. You didn't miss a single character thread in here. Great job bringing things back together for Reena's last gasp. :) Woot!
Thanks, Meg. I was scrambling to try to herd all of the plotline cats into a clump so Reena has a fighting chance of making sense of all of it. I'm sorry I couldn't bring Wills back to life for you (and Dawn), but at least she might get her revenge...
But does he have a belly full of wieners? We'll have to wait until Reena's wrapup next week to find if he fulfills his assignment to protect Drew or honors his millenia of genetic imperative in pursuit of food (and escapes Lauren's grip).
I like to think SOMEONE/THING is going to have a happy ending in the middle of this complex situation, and a dog with a belly full of weiners might be as close as we get.
At this point I think just about the only unexplored viewpoint left is anyone in the protestor crowd which seems made up more of "teacher" types than "student" types. Wait, has the hot dog guy been done?
Amazingly, there's still Drew's POV to be harvested, should Reena choose to go there. I was really close to taking the hot dog man POV, but Bear was right in the center of the action, so I got pulled that direction.
Oddly I'm hoping she DOESN'T pick Drew, even though he's the center of the action. Would be fun to see everyone's view EXCEPT the character who incites the action. Keeping Drew a mystery would be a fun and unusual happenstance.
I'm so pleased you gave this a close reading, Simon, and pulled out notes like this one. I worked harder on this chapter than a surface read might suggest, so it's gratifying to see the work provide some delight.
What fun! Glad to have this crazy story coming together in some fashion. Loved the flying wieners and flying Bear. Loved? the dog deciding whether to eat the burritos or the barf (gag!) But that's a dog for ya. Great writing and wonderful perspective for the penultimate conclusion.
I can't tell you how many times while editing this piece that I almost gagged when I got to that part. But it still made me laugh and, as you mentioned, seemed true to the character. A wolf's gotta do what a wolf's gotta do. Thanks for the comments!
I was torn between writing the wiener man's POV or the dog's POV. When I saw your comment on Brian's post a few weeks back, saying you were hoping most for a Tall Man POV and the dog's POV, I knew I had to take on Bear. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for getting this all started with your abundant story threads.
Thanks for the kind words, Brian. It's been a pleasure to be on this rollercoaster with you. And now that my chapter is wrapped, I finally have some time to dive into your short story collection, which has been on my reading stack for a month now.

Even the dog has a hidden agenda! Hah!
And, I suppose, a belly full of weiners, now!
Trust a lil tap-dog to talk like Wolverine.

Hahaha, that was very funny. Nicely done, Ed! What a great voice.
Echoing Simon on the voice. I was in from the jump and you nailed the POV and all the little details throughout. Outstanding stuff.
Thanks, Amran. It's gratifying when someone notices the details that you spend so much time fiddling with.
I've subscribed to Field Research and I look forward to reading your stuff.
Wow, Ed -- thanks! Welcome aboard. My stuff veers dark and political at times, so if it's not your cup of tea no worries.
Looking forward to reading more of your work as well.
We're good, Amran. I'm not all lap-dog-with-Napoleon-complex vibes. Smash the ____iarchy!
That's the spirit! I think you signed up just in time for today's piece, which I amused myself very much creating. Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks, Simon. You were a tough act to follow.
The bit where he gets tangled up in his own lead, in the middle of talking tough, is classic. So well observed.

Fun!!!! You took Bear away from me :-) -- but love this. Nicely done Ed.
The wieners, of course!!
Sorry, Reena! The pros and cons of going last, I suppose. I'm sure you'll wrap it up with style and verve. Looking forward to seeing what you do.

Omg, love it! When you connected the flying wieners to the flying โBear,โ my heart burst into a thousand hallelujahs

๐๐๐ Ed, this was a crazy, awesome addition to the mix! You seriously killed it. The dog's personality is perfect.
He's a wolf, pal. Show some respect! ๐

Enjoy the reading!
